My aunt forwarded an email to me from a friend of hers. It was called "If I Were a Blogger," and the friend had written that someone should blog reflections about L'Engle to celebrate the wonderful writer who died last Thursday.
A lot of people have. Thanks to Semicolon for rounding up some of what's been said.

Thanks for posting that link, Ruth. I heard about Madelaine L'Engle over the weekend and immediately started drafting a post in my head, but a lot of what she (and her books) mean to me is hard to share in a public way. I always (or at least for the last 15 or so years) wanted to write her a "fan" letter, but kept putting it off. Sigh. It's sad to think she won't be writing any more books.
Hey Ruth! I'll be accused of sacrilege, but.... I often found L'Engle too heavy-handed. I liked the Wrinkle in Time stories best. I always found myself thinking in new directions when I was reading her work. Maybe the best writers have the greatest potential to bug us...?
Hey, Janet - no sacrilege! You're entitled! Actually I know what you mean - there were one or two places where I'd agree. I remember one bit where she wrote about C. S. Lewis, and, I felt, totally missed the point he was making. But I loved A Wrinkle in Time when I read it first, when I was 10 or so, and it was a big part of the development of my imagination. And I love some of her other writing, too - A Severed Wasp, for one.
