So far this year, I've posted a review for every book I've finished. I know I can't keep up that pace once I start back to school, so I have to lower expectations, my own and other people's.
So here goes: A Complicated Kindness, by Miriam Toews, was book #5 of 2007 (I didn't like it) and A Breath of Fresh Air, by Amulya Malladi, was book #6 (I liked it).

I'd be interested to know the antecedents/background of M. Toews. Toews was a major name in the community where I taught in MT.
She's Mennonite. The book is all about how awful the Mennonites are.
I heard about that one from Charity, I think. Have you ever read Nadine Gordimer? I'm reading "Get A Life" right now, and man is it heavy...her prose are so dense and compact it's almost unbearable
6 books already - wow! You're on a pace for 350+ in the course of the year. :^)
I would have to say I really enjoyed MToews book. It was a very good read, I thought so anyhow. But that is just me. Off to finish A Boy of Good Breeding also one of hers, later then.
Bridget: Yes! Her book July's People is one of my favorites. I haven't read Get A Life and was interested to see that you're reading it. Is this one about South Africa too? Of course the African theme attracts me right away.
Tricia: Notice I didn't even post at all yesterday after dragging myself home from school - my reading pace will slow quickly, I can assure you!
Anonymous: This is another time when everybody else disagrees with me. This was one that our book group read, and though I wasn't there for the discussion, I heard that everybody liked it. There were parts that made me laugh and I thought the characters were believable, but it just seemed so pointless - like a long drug trip or something. And then I thought the stuff about Mennonites was so very over the top. Such a caricature. I should try her other one, too.
