It was. He's a classically trained actor who was part of the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal National Theatre.

The Royal Shakespeare Company did a series of performances in our town this past fall - and Patrick Stewart was among them. I didn't happen to bump into him on the street, but I was standing behind another RSC actor one day while waiting to order soup. (I only knew this because other people there obviously recognized him and were talking to him about how much he was going to miss the soup place when he left. I guess he was a regular!)

There is a great piece of writing about Shakespeare by an English writer called Bernard Levin, it is very clever because it is allquotes which show how much Shakespeare has contrbuted to the English language. A frind of my momintroduced it to me. I like the one on this link because it puts the quotes in italics, other versions on the web have it all in the same text, so it is harder to read.
