Poetry Friday: Cheekwood

It's been another rough year, but here's hoping that 2022 holds better things. Today I'm sharing some photos of some poetic things from a visit to Cheekwood in Nashville, Tennessee, with my husband and children. I took pictures of some words I saw, plus a sculpture from the sculpture garden called "Tree Poem." I've been to Cheekwood several times, with my husband while we were dating, and then with our children through the years, but I'd never been there in winter. It was still beautiful even with the leafless trees, and we saw and heard beautiful birds, including a bunch of Cedar Waxwings. And the time together was much-needed and wonderful. Since we get so much less time with our children now that they are all grown up and live in a different country from us, we savor every single moment even more than ever. Happy New Year, friends!

Carol is hosting today, and reminding us about trouble and suffering close to where she lives.

I have never heard of Cheekwood. These photos are beautiful, though, and it looks like someplace I would love. Wishing you His richest blessings in 2022.

I have never been to Nashville, but this looks like a spot I'd love to visit. I love how smart that Aristotle guy was!!! Ah, nature, cedar wax-wings, being with your children and husband, and enjoying life in the moment. May all the other happy moments of the New Year cheer you on this new adventure. I love the Poet Trees sculpture.

Ruth, how lovely to have time and opportunity to wander with your family in that place. I love the Tree Poem--even its odd truncatedness. It's strange to imagine you NOT in Haiti (and strange to realize that that's strange)! Wishing you safe travels and smoother sailing over your new seas. xoxo

"The silence of tranquil slumber..." These words resonate with me, Ruth. I have never heard of Cheekwood wither so thanks for the quick tour in a peaceful winter garden. I am glad that you heard birds calling to you as you spent some quiet time with your adult children. May peace surround you this year.

Ruth, I had some issues trying to post a comment so the above comment is from me. - Carol Varsalona (I woke to the beauty of winter so the quote about the silence of tranquil slumber is quite appropriate today.)

Lucky you to have a cedar waxwing sighting! It's been years since I've seen them. I have a fond spot for them ever since the time one landed on my flyrod while I was fishing in Maine!

As a Vanderbilt graduate, I love Cheekwood! A beautiful spot. Did you then go get fried chicken at Loveless? :)
