Poetry Friday: Although...

“Although the wind ...”

Although the wind
blows terribly here,
the moonlight also leaks
between the roof planks
of this ruined house.

by Izumi Shikibu, tr. Jane Hirschfield and Mariko Aratani

Here's today's Poetry Friday roundup.

I love Jane's translations of Izumi Shikibu's poetry. Have you read THE INK DARK MOON? It's a collection of love poems by Shikibu and Ono no Komachi. It's probably out of print, but Amazon might have it.
Have a great weekend!

Beautiful poem. Do they consider it to be a tanka?

When you crash again (because how could you not), remember the moonlight...

Wow, I love this poem. And I love your book list in teh previous post, going to dig into some of these! Also, your thoughts on being a TCK. I don't remember hearing your thoughts on this, and it is really interesting to read- I'd like to hear more!
